In this tutorial we are going to learn about What is Hole Span for Through Hole Components?

Through Hole Components ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Through-hole_technology )- In PCB two types of Components one is SMD and second is through hole type which have leads and mounted at bottom side of pcb via drill hole.

Hole Span – It means standard of drill which we decide by datasheet of components, It is use for fix the components in particular location in PCB , if it is not okay then components can be lose or tight so always when we create the footprint for any components then it should be perfect as per components specification and always try ti make with datasheet parameter .

Standard Tooling

Metric Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.112) + 2.36mm] – Lead Dia

Inch Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.112) + 0.093″] – Lead Dia

Large Lead Tooling

Metric Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.085) + 4.11mm] – Lead Dia

Inch Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.085) + 0.162″] – Lead Dia

5mm Tooling

Metric Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.109) + 1.40mm] – Lead Dia

Inch Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.109) + 0.055″] – Lead Dia

5.5mm Tooling

Metric Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.067) + 2.30mm] – Lead Dia

Inch Formula: Minimum Hole Span = [(Comp Body Length* x 1.067) + 0.090″] – Lead Dia
